VOLUNTEER

Volunteer work is counted as experience. This means that if you are looking for a job, or a better paying position, you can include your volunteer work on your resume for consideration.

There are plenty of ways in which you can volunteer at Southeast Children’s Fund.

Classroom Aide. We rely on parents and others to assist our teachers in the Child Development Center. Teachers conduct regularly scheduled Classroom Observations as a means of ensuring that each child is receiving the instruction and guidance that fits her/his level of development. During these times, we need additional help in the classrooms at these times so that learning activities go on uninterrupted. Aides also help on occasions when illness or other emergencies reduce the regular teaching staff. Persons interested in volunteering in this capacity must undergo a health and criminal background check, as required by District licensing regulations for adults working around children.

Field Trip Chaperones. SCF Child Development Center makes sure that its children go on field trips that expand their awareness of the world around them and enhance their cognitive, social/emotional, and physical development. We need parents and other individuals to ensure that children are optimally supervised on these trips.

Office Assistance. Southeast Children’s Fund is in the process of expanding its programming. This requires a lot of administrative work including: keeping the Web site updated; helping with direct mail campaigns; photocopying, answering phones, typing, and other clerical support. If you have the skills and the time, we welcome your help.

If you are interested in volunteering with Southeast Children’s Fund, contact the main office at 202-561-5736. Leave your name, telephone number and areas of interest.
