Program content varies from year to year, but always include academic support, cultural development, field trips, parent and child activities. The Camp is held every year from June 17 to August 24. Eligible children may attend free of charge. Contact Southeast Children’s Fund for more information.
Youth Empowerment. SCF pursues funding to establish programs for youth ages 12 to 18 years that help them develop the social and emotional skills to avoid risky and delinquent behavior, and gang involvement, as well as prepare them for work. Programming pursued includes Abstinence Education and job skill training.
Parenting Skills Training. Depending on funding and demand, SCF offers free and low-cost one-day and 10-week workshops that provide parents with key skills necessary to successfully promoting their children’s development and academic success. Parents learn how to structure activities and care according to their children’s developmental age, effective disciplining techniques, using play to promote learning, how to strengthen the bond with their children, important information to help them steer their children clear of delinquent behavior and gang involvement, and other key skills. To find out about the next workshop or workshop series, check with Southeast Children’s Fund staff or the Calendar of Events and special announcements on the SCF Web site.
Adult Education/GED Preparation. Southeast Children’s Fund partners with Living Wages, an organization located in Ward 8 that provides GED preparation and an External Degree Program (EDP), to which it refers parents and other individuals in the community seeking to complete their high school education. Depending on funding and demand, SCF also partners with relevant organizations and individuals to provide adult basic education to parents lacking the required 9th grade level reading skills. Future programming will include on-site Adult Basic Education and GED training. Call SCF for information and referral.
Job Skills Training and Other Economic Enhancement Programs. With a grant from the National Center for Neighborhood Enterprise, Southeast Children’s Fund established a computer lab with 13 computers and educational software for the purpose of on-line training in adult basic education and computer technology. This lab is central to Southeast Children’s Fund’s Youth and Family Initiatives. Southeast Children’s Fund continues to pursue funding to offer free programs to low-income families that can lead to economic self-sufficiency, job skill training, financial education and asset building opportunities for families. Availability of new programs will be announced on Southeast Children’s Fund’s Website.
